Abstract

Reaction of 6-methylellipticne with lithium diisopropylamide results in deprotonation of the C₁₁-CH₃ group, generating an anion which reacts with formaldehyde to give the corresponding hydroxymethyl derivative. The latter has been converted into its riboside, glucoside and galactoside.
