Abstract

The novel 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-8-one derivative 4 has been isolated as byproduct in the synthesis of (±)-mesembranone (2) by the dissolving metal reduction of the 4-aryl-4-aminoethylcyclohexenone 1.
