Abstract

Treatment of 2,2’-diamino-4,4’-di-tert-butyldiphenyl with excess SO₂CI₂ in a boiling CCI₄ solution afforded 1,3,4,6,8-pentachloro-2,7-di-tert-butylcarbazole in 80% yield. The pathway of the above reaction is also described.
